Late Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, Samdech Vibol
Panha Sok An, passed away on 15 March 2017 in Beijing hospital, at the age of 66 of illness. The deceased body of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister arrived at Phnom Penh   International Airport at 5:04 am on Thursday 16 March.

Cambodian top leaders and many other senior officials as well as diplomatic corps and local and foreign guests attended the cremation ceremony. Vice President of Indonesia H.E. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand H.E. Tanasak Patimapragorn and Lok Chumteav Naly Sisoulith, Spouse of Lao Prime Minister H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, were also present on the occasion.

Born on April 16, 1950 in Takeo Province, Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An has played a key role in the peace seeking process in Cambodia and in establishing the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia or the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. He was also recognised for the listing of the 11th-century Preah Vihear Temple as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and for the leadership of APSARA National Authority which is tasked to be responsible for research, protection, and conservation as well as the urban and tourist development of the Angkor Archeological Park.
